CSA II - Final Image

I chose this picture as my final as I thought it was very simple but fairly clear. I dont think the plant is the type that grows in spring but it reminded me of flower buds. I chose to use my 50mm so that I could get a very shallow depth of field in the image.

CSA II - Initial Ideas

These are a few shots I've taken for my seasons brief. Just some initial ideas that i could maybe improve upon and use for my final.

 I thought these clovers would work well for a spring photo, however there were a lot of dead leaves in the background so i had to tightly crop the image and then edited the image to appear more green and fresh in photoshop. I think it worked out well but there are still a few dead plant in the shot.

This was a small flower I found and took a picture of in my room. I was thinking of maybe spraying it with water to look like dew and give more of a spring feel. I like the pale soft pink colour of the flower.

Again I like the colour of the grass and thought it would look good with drops of dew to give it more of a spring feeling.

I like this shot of a mushroom I found but thought that it didn't convey spring all that well.

This was a shot from my window, it was a clear day and did'nt look like autumn so i thought I could maybe use it. I edited the colours slightly in order to bring more blue out of the sky.







These baby mushrooms and green sprouts really give a feeling of freshness which I think is a big part of spring.

Justin Rande

Justin Rande is a photographer I came across in "digital photographer magazine". His works caught my eye as I was researching artist for my spring brief and his shots are exactly the kind of thing i'd like to create for a final image.

I like his shots of flowers against a black background. The vibrant colours really draw you in. He also uses a very shallow dof to focus on certain aspect of his images, like the butterfly photo below.

Susan Derges

Susan Derges (www.susanderges.com) is well known for her images that are created by exposing objects directly onto photo sensitive paper creating quite abstract pieces of art. Although here image are very contrasty its still easy to recognise the subject through the shapes and angles. Her photos are usually of the natural world  and some were even taken by using photographic paper in the natural environment like the shot to the left..
This was taken by placing photographic paper on the riverbed at night and then using a flash gun to expose the rippling water and leaves.I think her Photos are very original and unique and manage to capture nature directly without the use of a camera.

These are some images I found through google, I like the use of the black background to really draw all the attention onto the subject. This something im considering for my final season brief.

Colou Studies Assignment II

Seasons

For our second colour studies assignment we were split into three groups autumn, winter and spring but were told to work independently. I was put into the spring group and was asked to look into my everyday environment and produce a photograph that somehow represented spring.

Spring
So far the ideas I'm considering are something along the lines of shooting a young plant or flower with dew or maybe some ice as if it was melting. Due to the current season of autumn it seems quite to find ideas that I'll be able to pull off so my image may have to be more symbolic than something like a typical spring scene.

Colours
Spring colours to me tend to be soft and pale and get more vibrant the closer it gets to summer. These are typical colours I've chosen which I will try and incorporate into my image if possible

Colour Studies Assignment

We were given a random colour swatch and a series of keywords which we had to use as our inspiration to create eight images. five seperate images, each based upon an idividual key word and three additional images based upo a combination of my colour swatch and any three of the keywords.
